Julie Anderson had game-highs with 26 points and 19 rebounds, but it was not enough as Mercyhurst fell to Division I foe Cleveland State, 61-58, at the Wolstein Center.
Cassie Seth was the only other Laker in double figures, with 13 points on 10-of-11 from the foul line. Anderson hit 9-of-13 shots from the floor and 8-of-10 from the line.
Erin Martin led Cleveland State with 21 points. Brittany North had 15 and Dominique Butler scored 10.
The Lakers trailed by four at the half, 33-29. In the second half, the Vikings increased the lead, before Mercyhurst cut into the lead as the clock wound down. Anderson hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left to close the game to three points.
Mercyhurst hit just 32 percent from the field, but held the Vikings to 32 percent shooting as well. The Lakers used strong free throw shooting to stay in the game, hitting 21-of-25 (84 percent) from the line.
The Lakers kick off their regular season on November 15 with a 6:00 PM tip off against Notre Dame (Ohio).
