Nov. 6, 2005

Stats

Erie, Pa. -

Mercyhurst's Sarah Powell scored two goals in the second half as the Lakers (15-5, 4-4 GLIAC) defeated Gannon (7-11-1, 2-6 GLIAC) in the season finale for both teams.

The elements did neither team any favors in a first half filled with rain and swirling winds approaching 30 mph.  The rain ended midway through the half, but the two teams entered halftime at 0-0 and combined for more fouls (15) than shots (8).

The Lakers took control in the second half, outshooting the Golden Knights 14-to-3 in the period.  Powell scored her first goal, the game-winner, just over two minutes in at 47:09.  Lisa Casement assisted on Powell's shot into the left side of the net to keep her scoring streak alive at 15 games.

Powell added an insurance goal at 59:45 to extend the lead to 2-0, with an assist from Jessica Lamb.

Finella Annand capped the scoring when Mercyhurst swung the ball from the left to the middle, around the Gannon defense.  Gannon goalkeeper Tiffani Parks was forced to come out of net and Annand dribbled around her to put the ball into the unguarded net.

Before the game, the Lakers honored their three departing seniors, Ashley Casey, Casement and Jessica Lamb.  Casement  and Lamb both had assists on the day, and Casey saw time in the midfield that helped hold Gannon to just a pair of shots on goal.

Karen Eade picked up the shutout in net for Mercyhurst, making a pair of saves.  Parks also made a pair saves in net for the Golden Knights.

Casement, who will graduate in May after just three years, was held without a goal to snap an eight-game goal streak.

With the win, Mercyhurst extended its win streak against Gannon to 20 games.  The Lakers have never lost to the Golden Knights.  After a tie in the first meeting between the schools, Mercyhurst has run the series record to 20-0-1.
