Head coach Curtis Robinette enters his 20th season with the Mercyhurst women’s water polo program. Since taking over in 2003, Robinette has guided the Lakers to over 100 wins and double-digit victories in ten of his past 14 seasons.
In a shortened 2021 season the Lakers went 9-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Mercyhust made it to WWPA Championship after going 3-0 in the conference playoffs.
Robinette has had many marquee accomplishments since arriving at Mercyhurst. In 2006, the program set a single-season wins record with a 15-8-1 mark, and in 2008, the Lakers came one win shy of tying that record with a 14-9 season. That squad captured third place at the CWPA Western Division Championship and became the first Division II team to qualify for the Eastern Championship since 2004. For his efforts, Robinette was named CWPA Western Division Coach of the Year.
As noted previously, his teams also excel in the classroom The 2006 team finished second in the nation among women's water polo teams with a 3.41 grade-point average and the 2007 edition was third at 3.35.
Robinette, who graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2002, was a standout player for The Rock. He was a four-year varsity award winner and team captain for two seasons. He received the Dr. Richard Hunkler Water Polo Scholarship.
After four years of coaching swimming in both Slippery Rock and Toledo, Ohio, Robinette made his debut as a water polo coach for the second-year Laker squads in the fall of 2002 and the spring of 2003.
Robinette, a native of Maumee, Ohio, resides in Erie with his wife, Molly. They have two sons Owen and Finn, and a daughter, Poppy..
