Redshirt senior cornerback Tevin Stewart was instrumental in lifting the football team to a season-opening 35-20 victory over Bentley. Stewart picked off a career-high two passes - one at the Mercyhurst goal line in the second quarter and one that he returned 90 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter that sealed the Laker win. The 90-yard interception return was the second-longest in school history. He also had five tackles (all solo) and broke up another pass in the win. For his efforts, he was named the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week.
