Ron Bretz is entering his fifth season on the Lakers coaching staff. Bretz was announced as the Assistant Coach in October 2015.
Before joining the Lakers staff, Bertz was the Assistant Coach at Mercyhurst North East for eight seasons. Bretz came on mid-year in Dec 2008 and took control of the pitching staff. During that year, the Saints made their first ever trip to the NJCAA National Tournament. The Saints are 232-95 in his seven years on staff.
Bretz has led a pitching staff that has helped the Saints get to the NJCAA National Tournament every year since he joined the staff. Under Bretz direction, the Saints pitching staff have been among the best in the nation. In addition, Bretz has sent several of his pitchers on to get scholarships at four year University’s. Bretz was honored in 2011, 2013, and 2014 as the NFCA East Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Bretz pitched men's fast pitch for 19 years and has been involved in coaching at numerous levels. For 11 years, he was the head coach at Ripley High School. During that time, he led the Eagles to numerous county and division championships. He also started the summer program for younger kids to improve softball in the area. Bretz also initiated and modified the JV programs, the first in Chautauqua County. He sent several players on to college scholarship programs.
