Reservation Process
Q: How do I book an appointment to work out at the Rec Center?
A: Use the VAGARO app or website to schedule a date and time.
- Download the app for iOS or Android, or visit the website using the QR code on the back of this brochure or by going to vagaro.com/mercyhurstuniversity.
- You will need to create profile with VAGARO; please use your Mercyhurst email address.
- Find the Mercyhurst University Rec Center on VAGARO.
- Scroll to the week, day, and time you’re interested in, and click the red “Sign Up” button. Follow the on-screen prompts to reserve your appointment.
Q: How far in advance can I schedule an appointment?
A: Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance.
Q: Can I reserve more than one session/time per day?
A: Yes. Users can register for more than one time per day. The user must check in at the front desk and show confirmation for each scheduled time. Users cannot reserve more than one time per hour (no reserving for friends).
Q: What if I miss my reserved time or can’t make it?
A: Rec Center staff reserves the right to cancel your reservation after 20 minutes. Entry to the Rec Center must be approved by front desk staff at all times. Users can not enter without proper reservation and ID check from front desk staff.
Q: Can I make a walk-up reservation?
A: Walk-up reservations can be made if there is available space.
Q: How do I cancel my reservation?
A: We encourage you to use the VAGARO app or call the Rec Center front desk at
814-824-3328.
Arrival Process
Q: What does the entry process look like?
A: The Rec Center lobby doors are for entrance only; there is an “exit only” door from the Rec Center directly outside.
- Please wait for your entrance time following physical distance guidelines of 6 feet apart (clearly marked on the hallway floor).
- Prior to entrance, please use hand sanitizer provided.
- Upon entering the Rec Center, please use your assigned cubicle to store your belongings. In each cubicle will be a spray bottle and paper towels. Please take the spray bottle (assigned to your cubicle) with you as you exercise and wipe down each machine prior to and after use. At the end of your workout, return the spray bottle to your cubicle, and wipe down your cubicle after collecting your belongings. Exit the facility through the “exit only” marked doorway.
- Signs are posted throughout the building as easy reminders of our mandatory policies and guidelines. Please follow all safety protocols.
Q: How long will it take for the entry process and will I have to wait for an exercise room?
A: The entry is arranged for an easy flow, and we will make every effort for a quick transition into the facility. Using the VAGARO app will make your visit to the Rec Center simple and smooth. We have rearranged the exercise equipment and the Rec Center can accommodate many users in our exercise rooms even with physical distancing. The Rec Center offers a variety of exercise areas for use.
Cleaning Procedures
Q: What are you doing to make the facility clean and sanitized?
A: The Rec Center has implemented additional cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
- We have increased the availability of hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, Virex spray, and paper towels throughout the facility.
- Rec staff and MU housekeeping will disinfect surfaces including equipment and other touch points daily.
- Electrostatic technology will be used daily to thoroughly disinfect the facility. The Rec Center uses EPA-approved cleaning and disinfecting products.
- Staff will monitor fitness areas to ensure equipment is cleaned and assist in cleaning touch points and equipment after each use.
- All users are responsible for cleaning equipment and all touch points prior to and after use. Paper towels are available for users to wipe up sweat followed by cleaning equipment after use.
Locker Rooms
Q: Will the locker rooms be available for student use?
A: No. Locker rooms are not available until further notice.
- Showers are not available this time.
- If necessary, you may use the storage cubicles to store your belongings. Use the spray bottles provided for cleaning machines before and after each use.
Free Weight Room and Cardio Room
Q: Are any changes being made to the Free Weight and Cardio Areas?
A: We are implementing the following guidelines in our exercise rooms.
- Equipment is arranged to accommodate physical distancing.
- Additional hand sanitizers, wipes, and paper towels have been placed throughout the exercise rooms for cleaning procedures.
- Employees will monitor fitness areas to ensure equipment is cleaned and assist in cleaning touch points and equipment after each use.
- Students must clean equipment with the approved disinfectant spray before and after use.
- Staff is available at all times for assistance and questions.
Studio and Court Space
Q: Are we allowed to use the dance studio, spin rooms, or green gym courts?
A: Yes. The dance studio will be available with cardio equipment. The spin room will host an assortment of weight machines. Medicine balls, dumbbells and kettlebells will be available. Please use spray bottles and paper towels to clean equipment prior to and after each use.
Q: Will court sports be available for play?
A: At this tme, no. Please check back here for future updates.
Q: Can I work out with a partner or share equipment?
A: No. It is not advisable to work out with a partner or share equipment. No circuit training will be allowed. All users must exercise on one piece of equipment at a time and sanitize after each use.
Q: Is spotting allowed?
A: Yes. Spotting another exerciser is allowed for safety; like all members, the spotter must wear a mask.
