In the fall of 2019, Mercyhurst University in partnership with Mercyhurst Preparatory School broke ground on a shared turf facility that will host the University's softball team as well as the softball and soccer teams at MPS.

The new facility will also provide another practice / competition space for the University's field hockey, soccer and lacrosse programs.

The Mercyhurst softball team also moved into their new locker room which were part of the renovations to the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

In March 2012, Mercyhurst University and the city of Erie renewed an agreement for the university's use of an eastside ball field, paving the way for nearly $200,000 worth of planned improvements.

Mercyhurst has leased the property at East 41st and Old French Road, known as Porath Field, from the city since 2002.

As part of the five-year renewal agreement, the university plans to rebuild and top-dress the infield; plant grass/sod in the outfield; install new seating; upgrade the dugouts; replace fencing, as needed; install a new scoreboard; and add a flagpole and flag to complex during the next several years, Mercyhurst Provost James Adovasio said in a news release.

"This partnership between Mercyhurst and the city will result in a first-class softball facility for the university's women's softball program and create an athletic property that the city can use with pride," Adovasio said.

Mercyhurst will use the field from September through May each year, and agree to leave it open for public use during June, July and August. The field may also be use by the public from September through May when the university is not using the field.
