WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Mercyhurst men's tennis team competed Sept. 18-20 at the Seahawk Fall Invitational, hosted by UNC Wilmington at Porters Neck Country Club. William & Mary, Queens, Presbyterian and North Carolina A&T also took part. Seven Lakers played in a flighted format with East and West draws.

Singles

Belosevic won the A2 flight's West bracket. After a 6-4, 6-0 East quarterfinal loss to UNCW's Gabriel Jacquemin on Friday, he advanced to the West final when North Carolina A&T's Josh Collidor withdrew injured. On Sunday, he led Queens' Miguel Maia 6-2 in the final when Maia retired.

Winsnes had the Lakers' best on-court win of the weekend. In the C flight quarterfinals, he beat third-seeded Thomas Anderson of Presbyterian 6-3, 6-1. He then lost 6-1, 6-4 to second-seeded Hamilton Huitt of Queens in the semifinals.

In B1, Damaske lost to UNCW's Alejandro Castellanos 6-0, 6-1 in the East quarterfinals and to Presbyterian's Dario Navarro 6-2, 6-2 in the West semifinals. Sunday's South final went to Queens' Diego Jimenez Gomez 6-4, 2-6, 18-16 in a match tiebreak.

In B2, Oliver lost to third-seeded Filippo Scala of Queens 6-3, 6-0 in the East quarterfinals. Mengher lost 6-4, 6-2 to fourth-seeded Augie Ballantine of UNCW. Both dropped to the West semifinals. Oliver lost 6-3, 6-1 to North Carolina A&T's Maksim Mihic, and Mengher took the first set 7-6(1) from second-seeded Gavin Ryan of Queens before losing 6-2, 10-6 in a match tiebreak.

In C flight, Sanchez lost 6-1, 6-1 to fourth-seeded Theo Nilsson of William & Mary, and Stadler lost 6-1, 6-0 to top-seeded Aarav Hada of Presbyterian. In Sunday's extra matches, Presbyterian's Rafael Correa beat Sanchez 6-3, 7-5 and Stadler 6-2, 6-3. Navarro beat Mengher 6-2, 6-1, and Jesse Clarkson beat Oliver 6-4, 6-3.

Doubles

Belosevic and Stadler reached the A-flight West final and lost 6-1 to Queens' Jan Montero Diaz and Noe Villen. Oliver, paired with Queens' Filippo Scala, won their B-flight East quarterfinal. Queens' Huitt and Jimenez Gomez then beat them 6-2 in the semifinals.

Damaske and Mengher lost three B-flight matches. They fell 6-4 to third-seeded Presbyterian pair Daksh Prasad and Anderson in the East quarterfinals, 6-3 to Queens' Ryan and Maia in the West semifinals, and 6-2 to second-seeded UNCW pair Castellanos and Ballantine in the South final. Winsnes and Sanchez finished 1-2 in the C-flight round robin, third among four teams.

The Lakers next compete at the Binghamton Championships in Vestal, N.Y., which doubles as the NEC's qualifier for the ITA Masters Championship.
