Easton Nets Four Goals; Women's Lacrosse Topped by New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team (0-6, 0-1) fell to New Haven (2-4, 1-0) with a final score of 14–11 on Saturday. Despite the loss, theLakers' offense managed to score seven of its goals unassisted.

The Lakers opened the first quarter with a strong start as Katie Ventresca secured the initial draw control, leading to Whitley Easton's goal at 13:48, assisted by Emma Cimino. Following a quick response from New Haven, Brynn Hall won another draw control for the Lakers, maintaining possession and setting the stage for further offensive attempts.

Despite several turnovers, the Lakers' defense managed to disrupt New Haven's clear attempts. Easton capitalized on a player-down situation to score her second goal at 3:06, closing the gap to 3–2. However the Chargers managed to extend its lead in the final minute, ending the quarter with a 4–2 advantage.

The second quarter began with the Chargers taking an early lead through a goal by Sophia Devaney, assisted by Caitlin Seleny. Ventresca won the subsequent draw control for the Green and Blue, setting up Easton to even the score with a free position goal at 13:36.

As the quarter progressed, New Haven extended its advantage with another goal by Devaney. The Lakers had several opportunities, including a notable save on a free position shot by Ainsley Bourbeau. Despite the pressure, the Lakers managed to cut the deficit with a late goal by Nicole Hetzer at 00:25. The quarter ended with New Haven leading 8–4.

Mercyhurst began the third quarter trailing, but a goal by Camryn Trybuskiewicz on a player-up opportunity shifted momentum. Following a timeout, Easton's draw control set up a scoring sequence, resulting in Natalie Wilson finding the net with an assist from Keira Mangels.

The team continued their offensive push as Cimino scored twice, with assists from Hetzer and Wilson, closing the quarter by narrowing the deficit to two goals. The quarter ended with Mercyhurst reducing New Haven's lead to 10–8.

The fourth quarter began with the Lakers trailing. New Haven extended its lead early with a goal by Devaney from a free position shot. Mercyhurst responded as Easton found the back of the net to keep the team within striking distance. The scoring momentum for the Lakers continued with Cimino and Wilson adding goals, the latter coming from a player-up advantage after a free position shot.

Despite Mercyhurst's efforts to close the gap, New Haven maintained its lead with additional scores, including a late goal by Devaney assisted by Taryn Murphy. The quarter concluded with the Lakers falling short as New Haven secured the victory with a final score of 14–11.

Cimino led the scoring effort for Mercyhurst with three goals and one assist, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output. Easton added to the attack by netting four goals, including one from a free position. Wilson recorded two goals and an assist, showing precision with her attempts on target. Hetzer contributed with a goal and an assist.

The Lakers will travel back to Connecticut next weekend as they face CCSU.
