Lakers Have Impressive Outing at Jamestown Open

Jamestown, NY.- The Mercyhurst Wrestling team got back onto the mats for a second straight weekend as they traveled to Jamestown. The Lakers had a strong showing that included multiple wrestlers placing at the event.
 
How it Happened:
Edwin Mooney grabbed a trio of wins on Sunday with the first coming over Michael Dafoe 17-2. He followed it up with a win over Blake O'Brien of Elmira College, before he fell to Landon Bainey of Edinboro. He picked up a win over Joe Magnano to take fifth place at the Open. Marcus Colson fell in his lone match of the day in a 5-1 decision at 141. Colin Scherer picked up one win in the championship bracket in a 7-0 decision over Brooks Smith of Garrett College. Noah Adamson earned a win the consolation bracket over Michael Ruiz of Penn State Behrend and Scherer also grabbed one win there over Jayden Norris of Alfred State.
 
Chris Cibrone picked up two wins in the championship bracket with the first coming in the form of a 7-5 decision over Raymond Worsen of Pitt-Bradford. He then beat Sam Zeigler of Brockport 17-5 before he finally fell. Cibrone finished fourth overall in the 157 weight class. Keith Mincin also finished fourth in 165 after he earned a pair of wins. He earned a 4-2 decision over Vandavian Way, who eventually beat him to take third place. Jake LeClerc was unable to muster a win in his season debut at 197. Joey Baronick, Gino Guerrisi and Josh Johnson-Cantrell each grabbed wins in the 285 class. Baronick was the only one to place, however. He earned four wins including a 5-3 decision over Cameron Carter-Green to earn third place.
 
Next Game:
The Lakers will get back on the mats next Saturday when they travel 30 minutes south to Edinboro. The Lakers will compete in their second to last event of the 2024-2025 season.
