Greensburg, Pa. - The Lakers went on the road to open the new month with the team able to get the win. The team made the trip to Greensburg, Pa. to take on Seton Hill and after falling behind in the early going, Mercyhurst rallied to take control and end the contest by a 38-10 decision.
How it Happened
The Griffins were able to get off to a fast start with a tech fall win in the opening bout of the competition. Edwin Mooney took the mat for the Lakers at 125 and ended up falling to make it a 5-0 lead for Seton Hill before the Griffins added another tech fall to their lead, 10-0. Next up for the Lakers was Jake Niffengger at the 141 weight class who got Mercyhurst on the board in a big way. The sophomore dominated from the outset and made his move in the later stages of the bout to help him get a pinfall victory to make it a 10-6 score as the Lakers began their comeback.
The Lakers added on and came within one with a win via decision at 149. Minnick ended up playing his opponent even in the early going, but a three-point takedown made the difference. The sophomore got three big points in the second period, helping him claim an advantage that he never gave up to make it a 10-9 score in favor of the Griffins. Mercyhurst ended up coming back at 157 with a tech fall victory of their own courtesy of Max Stedeford and claim the lead for the Lakers, 14-10. Dillon Walker did not allow a let down for his bout as he made it back-to-back tech fall victories to move the lead out to 19-10.
A tough matchup ended up going the Laker's way at 174 as Chase Stein grabbed a win via a decision to put Mercyhurst up by double figures. Stein found himself down in the early going, but a late takedown helped the sophomore get in front and grab an imperative win, making it 22-10. As the match continued to wind down Mercyhurst stayed in control things with a tech fall at 184 via Vincent Scaramuzzino while Trever Begin claimed one of his own to make it 32-10 going into the heavyweight matchup. Christian Taylor ended things on a high note for the Lakers as he closed his match out with a pinfall to end things at 38-10.

The Lakers come home for their next matchup with the team hosting Pitt-Johnstown. Mercyhurst sees the Mountain Cats on Friday, February 9th, at 7:00 p.m. before finishing their regular season the following Friday against Gannon at 7:00 p.m.
