How It Happened
After reaching the PSAC final last year, the squad returned to Veterans Park for another PSAC Championship Tournament. Kutztown started the game well as they took an early lead in the first inning when Sarah Harvey doubled to right center, bringing in Brianna Stocklin for a score of 1-0. In the third inning, Kutztown extended their lead with Harvey hitting a homer to the center field, bringing in two RBI's and increasing the score to 3-0.
Mercyhurst responded in the bottom of the inning when Allison Dejidas homered down the left field line, bringing in 2 RBI and making the score 3-2. It was her 15th homer of the season, breaking Mercyhurst's single-season record of 14 which was set by Samantha Eimers in 2011.
Just a couple of minutes later, Eliza Reynolds homered to center field, tying the game at 3-3 to give the Lakers back-to-back jacks.
The Lakers didn't slow down there, as Cheyenne Hindman added another homer to right center, giving Mercyhurst their first lead of the game by a score of 4-3.
In the fourth inning, Kutztown's Kate Ostaszewski hit a grand slam to right field, bringing in four RBI's and taking the 7-4 lead in the game. Despite great efforts, the Lakers couldn't answer back, and the Golden Bears held on to their lead and took home the win.
