Edinboro, Pa. – Mercyhurst Softball falls to Edinboro after two very closely contested games to open up the new week. The Fighting Scots win the first game by a score of 12-11, and the second, 9-8.
First Game
The first inning saw a lot of good offensive play from both teams, as Eliza Reynolds hit a home run to left center to make it 2-0 for the Lakers. Edinboro responded in the bottom of the same inning with Morgan Spitler hitting a three-run homer to center field, 3-2.
In the third inning, Cheyenne Hindman tripled, scoring Allison Dejidas and Anna O'Geen, 4-3. She later scored on a wild pitch while Irwin walked to bring in another run as the score stood at 6-3. Madison Fry also singled to bring in Francesca Latino, and Dejidas doubled to bring in Fry, Irwin, and Marisa Cartellone, making the score 9-3 in Mercyhurst's favor.
Edinboro fought back in the bottom of the third with both Spitler and Kayla Terwilliger hitting homers bringing and making the score 9-7. In the fourth inning, Latino hit another home run for the Lakers, bringing in Jessica Clark, and increasing the lead to 11-7.
Edinboro scored in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on good hitting and taking the 12-11 lead over Mercyhurst. The Lakers fought hard but couldn't answer, and eventually lost the first game.
Second Game
In the day's second game, Mercyhurst started strong with a run in the first inning, as Hindman drove in Fry with a single. The Lakers extended their lead to 3-0 in the third, with Reynolds and Dejidas each scoring on errors. Edinboro answered back right away, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third.
Mercyhurst added three more runs in the fourth inning, with Dejidas driving in two runs with a single, and O'Geen bringing in another run with a groundout. Fry added a run in the fifth inning with a double, making the score 7-2 in favor of Mercyhurst.
Edinboro staged a comeback in the fifth inning, with a pair of home runs to make it a one-run game at 7-6. Mercyhurst added another run in the seventh inning, with O'Geen walking and stealing second, while Fry scored on a wild pitch.
Edinboro tied the game in the seventh inning with Stephanie Krick driving in two runs with a single and Cheyenne Shughart adding another run with a single, eventually leading her team to victory over Lakers.
Playoff Picture
With today's losses Mercyhurst (17-11) falls to third place in PSAC West as Slippery Rock is currently ahead with a 16-10 conference mark. Seton Hill is still first with a 19-7 record, and Cal (Pa.) (17-11) is right behind the Lakers.

The Lakers return home on Thursday, April 27th, to take on Clarion with the first game starting at 2:00 p.m.
