Lock Haven, Pa. - The Lakers put in work on the diamond this past week with Allison Dejidas tearing the cover off of the ball while Mikaela Schramski kept the opposition from doing so. For their strong play they were named the PSAC Athlete and Pitcher of the Week, doing so for the second time this season.
Dejidas set the tone in her first game of the week against Slippery Rock, finishing 2-3 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. She followed up with two hits in the team's opener against UPJ on Friday with both of her hits going over the wall for her 10th and 11th home runs of the year. The outfielder then had one hit in each of her last three games of the week with one home run in each of the last two games to finish out a simply amazing week of play.
On the week overall, the native of Freeport, Pa. hit for a .444/.545/1.333 triple slash line with all eight of her hits going for extras bases with four doubles and four home runs while adding 14 RBIs to her line. Dejidas had three straight games of three or more RBIs with two games of four RBIs. Her sharp eye at the plate was also on display with four walks and no strikeouts.
Dejidas has been one of the better bats in the conference with a .447 batting average with 13 home runs, 15 doubles, and 55 RBIs. She comes into the new week in the top three in the PSAC in OPS, home runs, and SLG while leading the PSAC in RBIs to this point. Her home runs, doubles, and RBIs all rank in the top 10 in the nation as well with her RBIs being good enough for third.
Schramski started off her week against Slippery Rock on Wednesday, April 19th, with a complete game while giving up just two runs in a 5-2 win for the Lakers. She followed that up with another strong effort against UPJ to open the weekend, going six innings while allowing just one run and striking out two batters. The native of Osceola, In. rounded out the week with one of her best performances on the year, going six innings while giving up one run and striking out seven to tie her season-high.
The junior hurler has been solid for the Lakers in the circle this year, pitching 91 innings to the tune of a 3.77 ERA while boasting a record of 9-6 to go along with 60 Ks. The month of April has been one in which she has pitched very well. Shramksi has pitched in nine games in the month with 54.2 innings of work for an ERA of 3.78, giving her team confidence in her during a crucial time of the season.
Mercyhurst rounds out their regular season schedule this week with six games. They begin with Edinboro on Tuesday, April 25th, before the Lakers finish out their home schedule with Clarion on Friday and travel to Gannon on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
