Erie, Pa. – Despite great efforts, Mercyhurst Softball falls to Cal (Pa.) twice with both games needing extra innings to determine the winner. The Vulcans win the first one by a score of 5-1 and the second one 4-3. The Lakers are currently 21-14 on the season and 1are 1-7 in PSAC as they sit in third place in the PSAC standings.

How it Happened
First Game
Both teams started the first game slowly, but the Vulcans were the first one to score as they took the lead in the fourth, 1-1. The Lakers answered in the sixth inning when
Cheyenne Hindman singled to left field, scoring
Kacie Irwin and tying the game at 1-1.

The game remained scoreless until extra innings when Cal (Pa.) went on the scoring run in the top of the ninth, extending their lead to 5-1. Despite their hard work, the Lakers didn't score and lost the first game of the day.

Second Game
Mercyhurst started the second game well as they scored the first run of the game when Hindman flied out to left field, allowing
Madison Fry to score, 1-0.

In the fifth inning, California (Pa.) responded with a run of their own after a single to tie things up at 1-1. However, Mercyhurst quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when
Jessica Clark singled to right field, bringing in Hindman, 2-1.

A couple of minutes later Cal (Pa.) tied the game again when Charity Henderson hit a home run, bringing the score to 2-2.

The game remained tied until the tenth inning, when Cal (Pa.) scored again with Kaitlyn Achtermeier hitting a single and allowing her teammate to score, 3-2. Mercyhurst responded by tying the game again right after as Irwin hit a single and allowed
Allison Dejidas to score, 3-3.

In the 11th inning, Cal (Pa.) scored the game-winning run when Shayna Postler flied out to center field and allowed Kira Hillhouse to score.

Playoff Picture
The Lakers currently sit at the third spot in the PSAC West at 11-7 as they are right behind Seton Hill (13-5) and Slippery Rock (14-6)

They are scheduled to take on the Griffins tomorrow in a doubleheader at the Mercyhurst Softball Field with the first game set for 1:00 p.m.
