KUTZTOWN, Pa.—A whole team effort pushed the Mercyhurst Wrestling team a 23-10 win over Kutztown Saturday afternoon.
Billy Smith started things off on the right foot for the Lakers picking up a decision at 125.
Eric Bartos kept things rolling with another win by decision giving Mercyhurst a 6-0 advantage after two bouts.
Freshman,
Jake Niffenegger put up a hard fight against Collin Wikramaranta. Down 3-1 in the final seconds of the bout Niffenegger nearly earned a take down to send the match to overtime, but WIkramaranta kept things neutral take the decision.
Mike Zacur collected another three points for the Lakers in 13-8 decision while
Max Stedeford snuck out a close 2-0 decision at 157.
Another decision for the Lakers came in the 174 bout from
Dillon Walker.
Luke McGonigal got the only bonus point win for Mercyhurst in a 17-0 tech fall at 197.
Hunter Harnish ended the match with another decision for the Lakers in a 3-0 win.
The Mercyhurst matmen return home on February 3 to take on PSAC opponent Seton Hill.
