Men's Water Polo Finishes Bison Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa – Despite a great effort, Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo finished the Bison Invitational Tournament with four losses.

How It Happened
The Lakers traveled to Lewisburg, PA to continue their season. They started their action-packed weekend with a morning match against Salem University. The first half of the game didn't turn out how they wanted as Salem took 14-7 lead. Despite a hard fight in the second half, the Lakers couldn't make a comeback and the game ended with a score of 21-12. Danilo Vujovic and Derek Kagen recorded four goals each, and Tony Golin had 25 saves and five steals.

The second game of the day was much closer than the first one. The Lakers continued the Bison Invitational with a game against Johns Hopkins. Mercyhurst improved their performance as the first half ended with a two-goal deficit. However, the Blue Jays made a run in the fourth quarter winning that period 5-1. Despite 23 saves from Golin, John Hopkins won by a score of 13-7. Vujovic and Owen Hardner scored three goals each.

The Lakers continued their busy weekend on Sunday, starting with a game against McKendree. The game looked very similar to the Salem one. The Lakers started slow and allowed their opponents to get a six-goal lead at the half. Despite winning the fourth quarter, the game ended with a score of 21-12. Vujovic once again led the team in goals with four, and Teagan Thomas added two. Golin recorded 18 saves and five steals.

For the last match of the weekend Mercyhurst took on Mount St. Mary's. Despite a good fourth quarter, the Lakers lost that game by a score of 17-13. Vujovic led the team with 7 goals and Reed Bearden added two, whereas Golin recorded 11 saves and one steal.

What's Next
The Lakers come home next weekend, as they are scheduled to play four games in conference crossover. The games are set to take place in Hallman Aquatic Center.
