EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa – The Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse Team dropped their opening round matchup in the Atlantic Region section of the Division II Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Friday afternoon to the host East Stroudsburg Warriors by a 13-3 score. The loss marks the end of the Lakers 2022 campaign.
The Warriors opened up with three consecutive tallies in the first quarter followed by four more unanswered goals in the beginning of the second quarter to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Emily Mitarotonda produced three of the Warriors seven goals in the span. The Lakers responded with their first score of the game when Maggie Newton connected a shot at the 6:32 mark of the second quarter to trim the ESU lead to six. The Warriors would add one more score before halftime break to lead 8-1 after the first 30 minutes of action.
East Strudsburg scored the first two scores of the second half before Newton added her second of the game with 4:33 remaining in the third quarter, cutting the Warrior lead down to eight. The Lakers managed to tack on an additional goal in the fourth quarter from graduate student
Molly Meegan as the Warriors went on to score twice after, bringing the final score to 13-3.
Senior goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Lippert registered 19 saves for the Laker, one short of her season best.
Mackenzie Murphy and Lippert led the Lakers with three ground balls each.
