Five Lakers Earn All-Conference Honors, Baker Named Coach of the Year For Second Straight Year

Lock Haven, Pa.—The PSAC announced on Wednesday the end of the season awards including individual awards and all conference teams.

Head Coach Leanne Baker has been named PSAC West Coach of the Year for the second straight season by her fellow head coaches. Baker has led the Lakers to back-to-back PSAC playoff appearances while leading the Lakers to their first PSAC Championship Appearance this season. The Lakers also earned their first NCAA Tournament bid as they won 32 games this season which is a program record.

Marisa Cartellone, Allison Dejidas, Morgan Hilty, and Madison Fry were all named to the PSAC West First Team while Cheyenne Hindman was named to the PSAC West Second Team.

Cartellone is hitting .311 this season with an OPS of .704. The native of Medina, OH has played in 45 games this season while starting 45 of them at first base for the Lakers. She has 42 hits this including six doubles while driving in 26 runs. In the field the first time first teamer has a .993 fielding percentage while having 272 putouts and five assists with just two errors.

Dejidas is no stranger to post season awards as she was named to the PSAC West Second Team last season following her sophomore season. This season she hit .336 batting average while playing in all 46 games while starting in 45 of them. She hit a team high eight homers while driving in 44 runs which was third in the PSAC this season and the best in the western division. She had a team high 12 doubles while also having a .981 fielding percentage on 107 chances.

Hilty has been one of half of the one/two punch in the circle for the Lakers. The Jeannette, Pa. native has a 1.91 ERA this season in 23 appearances which includes 21 starts. Her ERA is seventh in the PSAC while opponents are hitting just .254 against her. She has struckout 61 batters this season while mostly being a contact pitcher for the Lakers. She has also hurled three shutouts and 15 complete games.

Fry has dealt with injuries all season but when she was in the lineup she was a sparkplug at the top of the Lakers lineup. Last season she was a first team selection as well. At one point of the season she led the nation in hitting, she finished second in the PSAC and second in the nation with a .505 average which was the best in the west. The Gasport, N.Y. native played in 31 games while notching 56 hits on 111 at bats. She had just five extra base hits but 13 stolen bases.

Hindman is also no stranger to postseason awards either, last season she was a first team selection. The senior form Harrisville, Pa. hit .326 this season for the Lakers while being one of three Lakers to start in every game this season. She hit three round trippers this season and drove in 27 runs. In the field, she has notched 115 assists at the hot corner while having a .957 fielding percentage.

Mercyhurst continues their history season on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, the Lakers take on West Virginia Wesleyan at 1:30 PM in Kutztown.
