Findlay, OH—The Mercyhurst Wrestling team took to the mats on Saturday for the Findlay Open hosted by Findlay University.
Eric Bartos had the best finish for the Lakers taking first in the 133 lbs. weight class. Bartos made his way easily through the bracket picking up his first two wins by pinfall and tacking on a major decision before earning his first-place finish in an 8-2 decision.
Trever Begin finished fourth at 184 lbs. Begin won his first two matches by decision before falling to the consolation bracket. He earned a 5-2 decision to move on to the third-place bout but couldn't pick up the win falling in a sudden victory scenario.
Sophomore
Max Stedeford earned a fifth-place finish at 157 going 3-2 on the day and earning a major decision victory in his second match.
Alexander Samson earned three wins in the 141 lbs. division before falling to the consolation bracket. He finished his day with a 3-1 record.
Jake Niffenegger, also competing at 141 lbs., fell in his first match of the day but made a nice run through the consolation bracket picking up four wins including two by fall.
Mike Zacur went 3-2 on the day at 149 lbs. and
Michael Clark posted a 2-2 record in the 165 lbs. weight class. Also at 165 for the Lakers were
Mark McGonigal,
Jaden Reagle and Ronnie Jones who all had a 1-2 record.
John Campbell competed at 197 finishing the day with a 1-2 record. At 125 lbs. freshman Travis Browing went 1-2 on the day.
The Lakers are back in action on December 2nd for their first home dual of the season against No. 15 Ashland.
