No. 25 Lakers Bring Down Rival Gannon for the Seventh Straight Time

ERIE, Pa. – The 25th-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team got back on track Tuesday afternoon with a solid 17-6 win over crosstown rival Gannon University at Saxon Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division action.  The Lakers had ten different players tally goals in the contest led by four from Julia Rescott.

Payton Cook and Rescott both recorded shots in the opening 90-seconds only to be turned away by Erin Renwick, before Gabby McGinn setup Rescott for the first of the day.   Marissa Comerate tallied off a McGinn dish and Cook netted her first of the contest thanks to a feed by Julia Ruscio extending the margin to 3-0 with 23:25 left.  A player-up opportunity was created for the Lakers after a yellow card was given to Emma Ivory at the 10:04 mark.  Rescott made sure the chance did not go by the wayside as she converted on the ensuing free-position attempt.  Gannon hacked away at the deficit with a couple of unassisted goals that evaded Kaitlyn Lippert.  However, the rest of the period belonged to the Green and Blue with Paige Cocina burying the rock twice and Rescott finishing off two Sarah Kaska passes for an 8-2 lead at halftime.

Rachel Hirst began half number two with a bang as she slipped a shot past Renwick with just 29-seconds gone stretching it to 9-2.  Macy Hepditch cashed in a feed from Skyler Parsons, before Hirst netted her second and Torie Sullivan along with Ruscio notched their first of the contest to push the advantage out to 12-3 with 22:34 remaining.  The next two goals for Mercyhurst came at the 8m arc as Cocina completed her hat trick and Ruscio picked up goal number two on afternoon adding to 5-0 Lakers run making it 14-3.  Kaska put away goal number five on the season, followed by a tally for Sara Simms adding to the margin 16-4.  Lauren Cain finished off the home scoring with a free-position marker at the 23:19 mark, while McKenna Woodworth added two for the visitors resulting in the 17-6 final.
