CLARION, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 6-0 victory over Clarion in PSAC West play on Tuesday evening.
The Lakers went scored a pair of doubles victories with Ivona Plecevic and Athina Tsagkaraki scoring a 6-1 victory over Alexis Strouse and Kali Augenbaugh. Valentine Budin and Emily Gordon topped Hannah Schettler and Sarah Kirmeyer 6-0 to earn the doubles point for the Lakers.
Plecevic topped Strouse 7-5, 6-1 in number one singles. Tsagkaraki won her fourth straight singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number two.
The three other Lakers also extended singles winning streaks. Janice Theodora ran her streak to seven matches with 6-0, 6-0 win over Savannah Buttery at number five. Valentine Budin won her ninth straight 6-0, 6-0 over Schettler. Alana Lewis owns the longest streak on the team now at 10 matches after a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kirmeyer.
The Lakers are back in action on Saturday when they open the PSAC Championship on the road at Slippery Rock. The match is slated for 2 p.m.
