No. 16 Lakers Come Up Short in Battle of Unbeatens Against No. 19 Seton Hill

ERIE, Pa. - Just five days after the Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team knocked Seton Hill University from the ranks of the unbeatens in a Top-5 clash, it was the Griffins who flipped the script on the Lakers by handing the Green and Blue a 15-12 setback on Wednesday afternoon at Saxon Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division play.

Seton Hill got out of the blocks fast by winning the first three draw controls and getting goals from three different players to take a 3-0 lead not even two minutes in.  Mercyhurst ended the run at the 10:38 mark when Victoria Gottorff found Julia Rescott who beat Kamille Ward.  Then, four minutes later Molly Meegan cashed in on a free-position attempt cutting the gap to 3-2.  The Griffins netted the next three with Kristi Kada, Jaclyn Frank and Alaina TeSelle each slipping a shot past Kaitlyn Lippert extending the cushion to 6-2 with six minutes left.  In the final three minutes of the half the Lakers tried to get back into the contest as Gabby McGinn setup Rescott, which was followed by Paige Cocina getting her first of the day on an assist from Grace Gajan.  Rescott finished off the hat trick with a free-position tally, but Taylor Fox-Trudell answered to make it 7-5 at halftime.

Cocina brought the Green and Blue to within 7-6 just 36-seconds into the second period.  However, the visitors quickly re-established their three-goal edge by winning the next three draws in a row resulting in markers by Kate and Kristi Kada bringing it to 9-6 with two minutes elapsed.  The McGinn to Rescott connection struck again and Julia Ruscio notched an unassisted marker cutting the deficit to 10-8 not even 10-minutes in.  A goal by TeSelle at the halfway point coming out of a Griffins timeout gave the guests their largest advantage of the afternoon 12-8.  Gottorff scored man-up after a yellow card was handed out to Makayla Kintner, but again SHU answered back immediately.  Sarah Kaska assisted back-to-back markers from McGinn and Julia Ruscio buried the Lakers final goal of the day from the free-position arch.  Unfortunately, the Griffins also picked up two goals during that stretch for the 15-12 final.
