Softball Sweeps Gannon on Sunday

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst softball team hit four home runs on their way to a pair of wins over Gannon on Sunday afternoon. 

Seven innings wasn't enough in game one as the Lakers pushed a run across in the top of the ninth to pick up a 3-2 victory. Mercyhurst belted three home runs in game two to notch a come from behind 8-4 victory. 

Gannon jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. The Lakers struck back in the fourth. Brianne Egelston led off with a single and stole second. Cheyenne Hindman followed with a home run to tie the game 2-2.  

It stayed 2-2, until the top of the ninth. With the runner placed on second to start the inning. Allison Dejidas bunted to move Chloe McQuestion to third. After a pop out, Alyssa Coons delivered a two-out single to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead and the victory. 

Mikeala Schramski picked up the win in the circle pitching a complete game striking out 10 batters allowing two runs, one earned. 

In the night cap, Mercyhurst trailed 3-0 after three innings. Sarah Koscho put the Lakers with a two-run home run to center. Madison Fry kept the inning going with a two-run single to give Mercyhurst a 4-3 advantage. 

In the fifth, Koscho struck again with another two-run homer this time over the left field fence. Gannon scored once in the fifth on a Kristen DeMatteis home run. 

Marisa Cartellone provided a pair of insurance runs in the seventh with a two-run blast to set the final. 

Morgan Hilty picked up the win in the circle allowing three runs over four innings of work striking out three. Kaitlin Hoffner picked up the save giving up one run on two hits over three innings of work. 

Fry went 3-for-4 on the day with a pair of RBI. Koscho finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. 

The Lakers are back in action on Friday when they travel to IUP.
