Women’s Golf Releases Spring Schedule

ERIE, Pa.— The Mercyhurst Women's Golf team has released their spring schedule for 2022. The slate includes six events with March 11 being the opening day of the season.

A Look Back

The Lakers teed it up in five events this fall and held steady all year long, usually finding themselves towards the top half of the field.

The opener at Charleston was the season's top performance, grabbing second place out of twelve teams. The event also saw Sofia Carrizosa find the winner's circle for the first time in her career, edging out fellow sophomore Isabella Walter in a playoff. The team's opening round total of 302 shattered the program record for lowest 18-hole score by 10 shots, with junior Kymberly Henry tying the school record individually with a 71.

The Lakers were able to collect a third-place mark at the Gannon Invitational, while coming in fourth at their home event and the Tiffin Invitiaional. Alyssa Ballaro and Lauren Dearment joined Carrizosa, Henry and Walter's contributing to the lineup.

The Schedule

Mercyhurst will kick things off at the Brown Golf Invitational in Pines, NC on the 11 and 12 of March, with Gannon playing host. After a week off the Lakers will then be in action every week for about a month straight.

Perry Park Golf Resort in Perry Park, KY will be the Lakers next test as they take part in the Klash In Kentucky on March 26 and 27. They then head to the Bill Blazer Memorial hosted by Ohio Dominican one week later.

On April 14 the Lakers will wear the host hat for the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational at Lake View Country Club, before closing out the regular season the next two days at the Gannon Spring Invitational at Whispering Woods in Erie.

The PSAC Championships, for the first time in recent history, will not be held simultaneously with the men's championship which already took place this fall. The Lakers will head to Hershey Country Club on April 22-24 looking to secure their first birth in the NCAA Tournament in program history. The past two championships have seen Mercyhurst as runners-up to Gannon, with last year's defeat coming in a playoff.

The two Erie rivals look to be the top contenders yet again to make it to the NCAA Regional in Kansas City, MO from May 2 to May 4. The Golden Knights were the only PSAC team to beat Head Coach Ron Coleman's team this fall, holding a 3-0 record over the Lakers.

The NCAA DII National Championships are on May 10-14 in Elgin, SC. Dallas Baptist University is the reigning national champions.
