#17 Women's Lacrosse Season Ends At Regionals

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- The 17th-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team lost its NCAA Tournament first-round matchup to No. 13 East Stroudsburg, 12-11, at West Chester on Friday evening. The Warriors scored the game-winning goal with 35 seconds left and advanced to Saturday's Atlantic Region final against fifth-ranked West Chester.

Kristin Anderson and Taylor Izzo had five-point goals; Anderson totaled three goals and two assists and Izzo finished with two goals and three assists to hit the 100-point mark for the season. Anderson also controlled seven draws and caused three turnovers.

Angelina Simon finished with three goals and one assist, Grace Lawson scored two goals and Emma Hubert tallied one goal for the Lakers (13-7). Lacey Netti added one goal and four groundballs.

Also for MU, Kira Kolb picked up six draw controls. Diana Schmitt was solid defensively with five groundballs and three caused turnovers.

In the cage, Raelyn Tiberio ended with nine saves.

Mercyhurst led for much of the contest, going on a six-goal run in the first half to grab a 6-1 lead. Izzo had two goals and two assists and Simon contributed two goals and one assist during that stretch.

The Lakers held a 7-4 lead at halftime before a Lawson goal pushed the advantage to 8-4 with 26:20 remaining in the contest.

ESU trimmed its deficit to 9-7, which Anderson pushed to 10-7 with 13:31 remaining.

Then, the Warriors rattled off four straight goals, taking an 11-10 lead with 5:31 to go. Forty seconds later, Anderson tied the contest at 11-all.

Emma Rufolo provided the game-winner with 35 ticks left. She controlled the ball on the ensuing draw, preventing the Lakers from a game-tying opportunity as time ran out.

Rufolo had three goals and one assist to lead East Stroudsburg. Mitarotonda and Bailey McMaster added two goals each in support of goalie Tatyana Petteway, who made 11 saves.

The Lakers outshot the Warriors, 27-25, and held a 16-9 edge in draws. ESU led groundballs, 28-21.
