BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's tennis team defeated Bloomsburg, 5-0, to win its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal matchup on Friday.
The Lakers swept doubles play before Mercyhurst's top two singles players secured the final two points to clinch.
Nenad Terzic and
Cormac McCooey won at No. 1 doubles over Lucas Pedrotti and Bernardo Abreu, 8-4, while
Ruairidh Fraser and
Unai Amilleta Gonzalez took an 8-6 decision against Guillermo Carranza and Nagid Walle at second doubles.
The third-tier match went to a tiebreaker before
Luka Veselic and
Arseniy Sklyarov finished off Robin Luetzig and Benjamin Tauber, 9-8.
In singles play, Terzic (No. 3 Atlantic singles) bested Pedrotti, 6-1, 6-0, and Fraser (No. 5 Atlantic singles) finished Abreu, 6-3, 6-2. Fraser has won 14 consecutive singles matches.
With the victory, Mercyhurst (15-2) set itself up for a PSAC Tournament rematch of last year's final against Edinboro. The Lakers won in 2017 to claim the program's first-ever PSAC men's tennis crown.
