KUTZTOWN, Pa. --
Janelle Williams and
Carly Zimmerman scored five goals apiece to fuel the 11th-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team over Kutztown, 16-5, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
Taylor Izzo added a six-point game, finishing with one goal and five assists for the Lakers (5-2, 3-1).
Lacey Netti,
Kristin Anderson,
Cassandra Ellis,
Grace Lawson and
Sydney Dubois also had goals.
Netti added two assists while Anderson and Ellis tallied one assist each. Anderson and
Kira Kolb controlled four draws apiece.
In goal,
Gabby Gravino earned the win and made nine saves. She was relieved in the second half by
Abigail Miller, who stopped two shots.
The Lakers had little trouble in the first half, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. Zimmerman had three goals during that stretch while Williams put in two. Mercyhurst held a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
Sarah Gabriele had three goals for Kutztown (5-4, 1-4) while Lauren Huggins put in two. Abby Cox had 10 saves in net.
The Lakers outshot Kutztown, 37-21, and held a 16-7 edge in draw controls. KU won the groundball battle, 25-24.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Tuesday when PSAC opponent Edinboro visits Tullio Field for a 4 p.m. start.
