Historic Season Ends For #6 Women's Lacrosse in 12-9 NCAA Loss To #13 Queens (N.C.)

SAINT CHARLES, Mo. -- The sixth-ranked Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team was defeated by 13th-ranked Queens (N.C.) in an NCAA Tournament first-round matchup at Lindenwood on Friday.

Olivia Keirn scored three goals and leading point-getter Emily Gebhardt totaled one goal and four assists for the Laker effort. Kristin Anderson added two goals and two assists.

Also for Mercyhurst (17-3), Janelle Williams scored two goals while Carly Zimmerman put in one.

In the draw control department, Anderson finished with 12. Zimmerman and Christa Morrison caused three turnovers apiece. In goal, Gabby Gravino had six saves.

The Royals (18-2) took a 4-1 first-half lead, including two goals from Alexandra Bruder, before four different MU goal-scorers helped tie the score at 5-all.

Gebhardt scored the Lakers' fifth goal, getting an assist from Anderson, just 15 seconds into the second half. That forged the game's final tie.

QUC answered with five consecutive scores, including two by Bruder and two by Brittany Larranaga, to take a 10-5 lead -- a lead it would not relinquish. Mercyhurst responded with a 4-1 charge of its own as back-to-back goals by Keirn pulled it within 11-9 at the 1:40 mark, but the rally ended there.

Bruder and Larranaga had four goals each for the Royals. Winning goalie Christine Weise made seven saves.

Queens held a 22-21 shot advantage while Mercyhurst dominated draw controls, 15-7.
