Lakers Beat Lynn 12-8; 2nd Game Postponed

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Mercyhurst College softball team beat Lynn University today 12-8. The Lakers scored six runs in the fifth inning to rally past the Fighting Knights. The second game was canceled due to weather and will be completed Thursday, March 3.

Seven Lakers recorded an RBI in the first game with eight Lakers hitting safely. Leadoff hitter Emily Redig led the Lakers with three hits while contributing two RBI. Junior Andrea Sauers picked up two more RBI on the season, bring her season total to 12.

Freshman Chynna Headrick scored three runs and helped her average out with three hits. Junior Samantha Eimers also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5.

Senior Amanda Norman, sophomore Megan Hopton, and freshman Colleen Griffin all pitched with Hopton receiving the win. Hopton now has a 3-1 record on the year.

The Lakers second game of the twinbill was postponed due to rain and will be finished on Thursday. The time of the game is yet to be announced.

The Lakers now hold a 9-4 record and will compete against Nova Southeastern on March 2 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
