Thousand Oaks, Calif. – The Mercyhurst men's water polo team suffered just its third loss of the season Thursday evening, falling to California Lutheran, 12-10, in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
After falling behind, 5-3, in the first quarter, the Lakers (7-3) bounced back in the second with a 4-2 scoring advantage to tie the game going into halftime. However, coming out of the break, California Lutheran pitched a shutout against Mercyhurst while adding two scores to grab a 9-7 lead heading into the finale. Both teams would finish out the game with three goals apiece in the fourth.
Sophomore
Alex Moggridge powered the Laker offense with four goals and three assists, while also adding two steals. Senior
Andrew Schonhoff tallied three scores and registered four drawn ejections. Senior
Jorge Montero tallied a season-high six steals to highlight the defense.
The Lakers continue their California trip Friday against California Baptist in the opening round of the Claremont Convergence. Game time is set for 3:45 p.m. pacific.
