Women’s Basketball Season Ends with Loss at Edinboro in PSAC Tournament First Round

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University women's basketball season came to an end Saturday afternoon at Edinboro, 61-42, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament First Round. The loss concludes the Lakers' record at 14-15 overall, while Edinboro improves to 20-9. The Fighting Scots will advance to the PSAC Quarterfinals Tuesday at number one-seed California (Pa.).

It was a tough start to the game for Mercyhurst, as they shot just 7-of-22 (31.8%) from the field and went 1-of-7 (14.3%) from three.

Edinboro, on the other hand, came out on fire. The Fighting Scots shot 60.0 percent (15-of-25) from floor and made 7-of-12 (58.3%) 3-point field goals.

Mercyhurst went into the break trailing by 20-points, 37-17.

The Lakers would outscore Edinboro 25-24 in the final two periods of play, but it wasn't enough to get them back in the ballgame. Mercyhurst was never able to get the deficit back to within single digits.

Natalie Piaggesi was the only Laker to record double figures scoring, with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. She finished the game one rebound shy of a double-double.

Adrienne Kloecker and Maria Lapertosa were the next two leading scorers for Mercyhurst, scoring seven points apiece.

Mercyhurst finished the game shooting 32.0 percent (16-of-50) from the field and 10.5 percent (2-of-19) form behind the arc.

The Lakers outrebounded the Fighting Scots by two, 33-31.
