Lock Haven, PA – The #9 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated the West Chester Golden Rams in the PSAC semifinal match this Friday afternoon. The Lakers won in overtime by a score of 10-9;
Mackenzie Jordan and
Jenna Schlagenhauf leading the team with two goals apiece. Midfielder
Hannah Corton led the team in points, posting 1 goal and 2 assists in the match.
Corton came out and scored the first goal of the game for the Lakers at 24:25 in the first. Shortly after, midfielder
Kristina Roberti scored to make the game 2-0. At 21:17, West Chester answered back with their first goal of the game before
Taylor Ventre found the back of the net making the game 3-1.
Olivia Keirn scored her lone goal of the game at 14:54 and Schlagenhauf posted her first to make the game 5-1. Corton then assisted the goals of
Rebecca Himes and
Mackenzie Jordan to round out the scoring in the first half.
With Mercyhurst leading 7-2 in the second, West Chester turned up the offensive momentum. The Golden Rams scored four goals before Schlagenhauf found the back of the net to make the game 8-6. At 7:52, freshman
Kristin Anderson converted a free position shot to make the game 9-8, Mercyhurst. West Chester scored once more to tie the game at 9 and sent the teams into overtime.
The first half of overtime remained scoreless until Jordan was awarded a free position shot with four seconds remaining. She was able to successfully blast a shot past the West Chester goalie, and that goal proved to be enough to inch the Lakers towards the win. Neither team was able to score in the second period of overtime.

Mercyhurst will be taking on #1 ranked Lock Haven University in the PSAC Championship game tomorrow May 2
nd, at 1:00pm. In last year's championship game, Mercyhurst fell to Lock Haven by a score of 9-7. This will be their third championship visit in the past four seasons.
