Women's Hoops Drops 62-53 Decision at #23 Rollins Saturday

Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost 62-53, at #23 Rollins Saturday evening. Freshman Adrienne Kloecker scored 12 points on four three-pointers to lead the Lakers.

Lindsey Burke sparked Mercyhurst in the early going, taking advantage of her first start of the season. The senior blocked two shots in the game's first minute and then drained a three-pointer to even the score at 3. She grabbed a rebound, blocked another shot and then hit Abby Allen for a trey to put the visitors ahead, 8-6, with 17:14 left.

In the next minute, Kaylee Foster converted a three-point play to make it 12-8 before the Tars made their move to take the lead. A Dana Banda basket slowed the spurt and regained the Lakers' edge at 14-13 with 11:58 to go. A 9-0 Rollins run gave the hosts breathing room, but Laura McCauley came off the bench and made two layups. Alayna White followed with another hoop to cut the deficit to 22-20 with just over seven minutes remaining in the period.

The Tars reeled off 10 straight points from there. Paris Thomas broke up the streak with a jumper, but Rollins scored seven quick points to end the half with a 39-22 advantage.

Rollins (7-2) maintained a comfortable margin for much of the second half, leading by as much as 23. However, the Lakers refused to give up, going on a late run to make it a single-digit affair. Two Kloecker triples, a layup by Allen, and a White three pushed the Tars as time ran out.

Kloecker hit 4-11 three-point tries, all in the second half. White totaled nine points and nine rebounds, while Foster added seven points. Allen, Burke, and Kelsey Trosch each scored five points. Ashley Jones led Rollins with 16 points.

As a team, Mercyhurst shot 20-49 (40.8 percent) from the floor and the Tars hit 23 of their 64 attempts (35.9 percent).

The Lakers dropped to 2-6 in 2012-13. They return to the floor tomorrow at Rollins. Mercyhurst faces Cedarville (Ohio) in another non-conference contest at 7 p.m.
