ERIE, Pa. - #8 Mercyhurst got goals from four different players en route to a 4-0 verdict over #9 Quinnipiac Friday night in the season-opener for both teams.

Senior forward Bailey Bram scored what proved-to-be the game-winner at 9:44 of the first period when she found the back of the net, unassisted, with the Lakers down a player. Bram stole the puck in the Quinnipiac zone and her shot went through the five-hole of  Quinnipiac netminder Victoria Vigilanti.

Senior center Kelley Steadman then cashed a power play with under three minutes to play in the period. Great passing from sophomore Christine Bestland to freshman defender Caroline Luczak, who then found a wide open Steadman at the left point. The senior's one-timer beat Vigilanti for a 2-0 Mercyhurst lead. Mercyhurst had an 11-6 advantage in shots in the opening twenty minutes.

The lead grew to 3-0 at 10:31 of the second when Bestland beat Vigilanti with both teams at even strength. Steadman and sophomore forward Christie Cicero had the assists.

Junior forward Lauren Jones capped the scoring at 16:27 of the third with the game's prettiest lamplighter. Jones, parked ten feet in front and to the right of Vigilanti, deflected senior Jess Jones' pass over the goaltender's shoulder. Junior transfer Gina Buquet also helped.

After both teams divided twenty second period shots, the Lakers closed the game with a sizeable 13-4 margin in the third and a 34-20 advantage for the game.

The Lakers were 1 for 3 with the player advantage while the Bobcats failed in three similar chances.

Senior goaltender Hillary Pattenden picked up her career-leading 81st win while posting her 13th career shutout. Vigilanti suffered the loss, stopping 31-of-34 Mercyhurst shots.

The two teams will conclude the weekend series on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
