ERIE, Pa. - Louis Goulet, who has served as an assistant coach for the Mercyhurst College women's hockey team for the past three seasons, has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, as announced by Mercyhurst Director of Athletics, Joe Kimball, earlier today. The Kapuskasing, Ontario native takes over for Paul Colontino, who resigned earlier this month to become the head coach at Robert Morris University.

" Louis is a great individual who is well deserving of this position," said Mercyhurst head coach Michael Sisti, who has won 313 games since starting the program in 1999. "I've known Louis for a long time and it has been terrific to work with him. We always try to bring the best out in our student athletes and strive for excellence. He has been a great addition to our program."

Since joining the program, Goulet has helped Mercyhurst to reach the NCAA tournament in all three seasons, appear in two Frozen Fours, and make it all the way to the National Championship game against Wisconsin in 2009 - Goulet's first year on the bench.

The Lakers are coming off a year that saw them finish 29-6 overall, win their 10th straight conference title, and appear in the NCAA tournament for the seventh consecutive season.

Prior to joining the staff, Goulet played his last two seasons of professional hockey with the Augusta Lynx of the ECHL. He became the Lynx all-time leading scorer in 2008, capping his ECHL career with 94 goals and 273 points.

Goulet also spent time with the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL in 2005-06, the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL in 2003-04, the Lynx again in 2003-05, the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL in 2002-03, and the Orlando Seals of the ACHL in 2002-03. In that first season with the Seals, Goulet broke out with 20 goals and 80 points to earn the title of ACHL Rookie of the Year.

A 2002 graduate of Mercyhurst College, Goulet played four seasons of collegiate hockey with head coach Rick Gotkin and the men's hockey program.

He was the ECAC West Rookie of the Year in 1998-99, during which he amassed 34 points in 28 games. A year later, he was part of the Mercyhurst team that made the move to the Division I-level. He was a Second Team All-MAAC choice in both his sophomore and junior seasons and elevated himself to the conference's first team in his final year, the same season the team won the MAAC Hockey League Playoffs and battled Michigan to the very end in a 4-3 loss in the NCAA West Regional. Goulet ranks sixth all-time at Mercyhurst with 157 career points.

Goulet currently resides in Erie, Pa., with his wife, Jamie, and their son, Kodi.
