Lakers Down Wayne State, 3-1

ERIE, Pa. – The No. 4 / 5 Mercyhurst College women's hockey team completed the series sweep of Wayne State Saturday afternoon, defeating the Warriors 3-1 in a College Hockey America contest at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers, who also complete the season sweep, 4-0, improve to 24-5-0 on the season and 13-0-0 in CHA play.

Senior assistant captain Jesse Scanzano scored a natural hat trick, senior captain Meghan Agosta dished out three assists, and junior Hillary Pattenden made 19 saves to earn her 22nd win of the season (22-5-0) and surpass Laura Hosier for most wins in program history with 75 career victories (75-11-3).

Both teams played scoreless hockey for nearly 40 minutes until Scanzano broke the deadlock with her first goal of the afternoon with 36 seconds to play in the second period. She then completed her sixth career hat trick in a span of 46 seconds in the third, scoring on a 6-on-4 delayed penalty call at the 1:31 mark and again on a 5-on-3 power-play at 2:17.

Wayne State broke up the shutout with less than six minutes to play, as Alyssa Baldin scored with a Laker in the penalty box with 5:49 to play.

Despite getting outshot 10-5 in the first period, Mercyhurst turned the tables and finished the game with a 37-20 advantage in shots. The Lakers also converted 2-for-7 on the power play. Wayne State, meanwhile, got 34 saves from Delayne Brian and went 1-for-7 on the man-advantage.

Mercyhurst returns to action next weekend with a two-game series at Syracuse, beginning on Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.
