ERIE, Pa. – Senior captain
Meghan Agosta scored her 151st career goal to become all-time leading goal scorer in NCAA history, as the third-ranked Mercyhurst College women's hockey team posted a 6-2 victory over Robert Morris on Friday evening at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Agosta surpassed Harvard's Nicole Corriero, who set the record at 150 during the 2004-05 season, when she connected off a pass from junior
Bailey Bram on the power play at 15:18 of the second period. She later added her 152nd goal as a Laker in the third period, completing her two-goal evening.
Mercyhurst, which closes out the regular season 27-5-0 overall, 16-0-0 in College Hockey America play, scored two goals in each period to move to 27-0-0 all-time against Robert Morris and send its graduating players out in style on senior night. Mercyhurst and Robert Morris traded goals in the first 10 minutes of the game before the Lakers went on a roll with the next three over a span that bridged the first and second periods. Steadman opened the game when she beat RMU netminder Meeri Raisanen on the rush at the 6:44 mark. The Colonials countered shortly after, as Sara O'Malley knotted the game at one at 7:32.
Following a six-minute span that saw both team skate up and down the ice, the Lakers broke the tie and went ahead for good when Bram deflected in a shot from the left side of the cage with 6:25 to play. Agosta and Schols then streched the score to 4-1 with a pair of goals less than five minutes apart at the 15:18 and 19:24 marks of the second.
After the break, RMU got back on the board when Brianna Delaney struck with two Lakers in the penalty box at 6:36 before the Lakers closed out the game with tallies courtesy of Agosta at 7:31 and Scanzano at 19:20.
Junior
