Eight teams from Division I will be selected in the National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Selection Show, with the top four seeded teams earning the right to host an NCAA quarterfinal contest on either Friday, March 12 or Saturday, March 13.
The quarterfinal winners then advance to the 2010 NCAA Women's Frozen Four, March 19-21 in Minneapolis, Minn. at Ridder Arena. Semifinal contests are slated for Friday, March 19 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The national championship game is scheduled for Sunday, March 21 at 12 noon.
The Lakers have competed in the NCAA Tournament on five-straight occasions, including last year's run. Mercyhurst won its first-ever NCAA playoff game a year ago against St. Lawrence, then upended perennial power Minnesota for the right to play in the National Championship in the program's first appearance in the NCAA Women's Frozen Four. The Lakers fell in the title game to Wisconsin by a 5-0 count.
This weekend the Lakers look to continue their College Hockey America dominance as they go for their eighth-straight CHA Tournament title. Mercyhurst takes on the winner of the Wayne/State Robert Morris quarterfinal on Friday, March 5 at 4 p.m.
