Agosta Scores Again as Canada Advances to Gold Medal Game

VANCOUVER - Mercyhurst College women's hockey forward Meghan Agosta will have a shot at a second gold medal. Agosta scored a goal and added an assist as the Canadian National Women's Hockey Team defeated Finland, 5-0, Monday evening to advance to the gold medal game of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Agosta put on her fourth multi-point performance of the Olympics with an assist early in the first period and her record-setting ninth goal of the tournament late in the second.

With less than six minutes elapsed in the opening stanza, Agosta took the puck around the net and sent a backhand pass to Cherie Piper, who ripped it from the slot past Finland netminder and University of Minnesota freshman Noora Raty for the 1-0 lead at 5:26.

Haley Irwin added the Canadians second goal at the 14:26 mark to take a 2-0 advantage into the first intermission.

Agosta extended the lead to 3-0 in the second period when she found a puck in the middle of a scrum and sent it top-shelf with 3:29 remaining in the frame.

Irwin and Caroline Ouelette potted goals at the beginning and the end of the third period to close out the game and give the Canadians their fourth win of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The Canadians will look to claim their third-straight gold medal when they face Team USA this Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at Canada Hockey Place. Fans can view the game live on MSNBC.
