CALGARY – Behind a late two-point performance from
Meghan Agosta, the Canadian National Team rallied to top the under-22 squad, 4-3, in the first of three exhibition games at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena Monday evening.
Agosta, who is currently taking the year off to train for the Vancouver Olympics, led the National Team's comeback in the third period. Down 3-2, the Ruthven, Ontario product dished out an assist to Marie-Philip Poulin who tied the game at 3-3 on a power-play goal at 13:06. With time running down and overtime looming, Agosta finished the attack with the eventual game-winner, a short-handed score that made it past Harvard's Christina Kessler with 1:06 remaining.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the first period, both teams combined for five goals and 23 shots in the second. Three Lakers got in on the scoring action for the under-22 team, beginning with junior
Vicki Bendus and her assist on Lauriane Rougeau's goal at 4:08 to stake a 1-0 lead. Following a pair of scores that wiped the lead away and gave the National Team a 2-1 advantage, the under-22 squad regained control with consecutive goals. Junior
Jesse Scanzano found Karell Emard for the tying score at 11:12, while sophomore
Bailey Bram's helper on Natalie Spooner's score at 19:54 gave the youngsters a 3-2 lead near the end of the frame.
Class of 2008 goaltender
Laura Hosier made the start for the under-22 team, playing 29:29 with two goals allowed.
Both teams resume play Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary, Alberta
