Lakers Well Represented on Canadian Under-22 Team

Sophomore Bailey Bram was one of four Lakers selected to the Canadian Under-22 Team.
CALGARY – Three current players and an alumnae of the Mercyhurst College women's hockey team have been selected to the 2009-10 Canadian National Women's Under-22 Team, Hockey Canada announced on Saturday after evaluating the players during the weeklong selection camp in Calgary, Alberta.

Juniors Vicki Bendus and Jesse Scanzano, sophomore Bailey Bram and 2008 graduate Laura Hosier will make up part of the 23-player roster that is set to compete against the Canadian National Team this week.

The 23 players – three goaltenders, eight defensemen and 12 forwards – were selected by head coach Margot Page and assistant coaches Jim Fetter and Stephanie White.

“The selection camp held in Calgary was incredibly competitive, which made selecting a team extremely difficult,” said National Women's Under-22 Team head coach Margot Page. “We are confident the 23 players we have chosen will represent themselves and the under-22 program well and we are looking forward to three exciting games against Canada's National Women's Team.”

The 2009-10 season for Canada's National Women's Under-22 Team will include the three-game series against Canada's National Women's Team in Calgary from August 17-20, as well as the 2010 MLP Cup in Germany in early January. The roster announced Saturday will not be Canada's team for the 2010 MLP Cup. Player evaluations will continue during the early months of the 2009-10 season, and a final roster will be named in December.

All four Lakers stood out at the Canadian National Women's Under-22 Selection Camp this past week. Bendus led the Laker representatives with a pair of goals, both against Team Sweden. Bram notched one goal for one point, while Scanzano equaled the point-output with an assist. Hosier went 1-1 with a shutout in Friday's 2-0 victory over Team White.
