Mercyhurst University Athletics

Mercyhurst wrestling program welcomes a familiar face into the coaching staff. August Mizia was named the Graduate Assistant to Mike Wehler and the Mercyhurst Wrestling Program for the start of the 2016-2017 season. Mizia spent the last five years competing for the Lakers at 174 pounds. Through his tenure he posted a (116-31) record landing him second in all-time wins at Mercyhurst. Mizia was a 4X PSAC place-winner and 4X All-Conference selection. Mizia is a three-time NCAA Qualifier winning a regional championship in 2016. At the 2015 D-II NCAA Tournament in St. Louis, Mizia recorded a 4-1 record finishing 3rd in the nation and earning All-American Status.

August Mizia graduated in 2015 with a degree in Elementary and Special Education. Last year he began graduate school at Mercyhurst in the MABA program and continues to work towards a degree this year. While competing Mizia was a 4X PSAC Scholar Athlete, 3X NCAA First Team Academic All-American as well as a CoSIDA Academic Regional Team selection in 2016.

August hails from Bentleyville, PA and is accompanied at Mercyhurst by his two younger brothers; Francis is a redshirt senior on the Mercyhurst Wrestling Team and Paul is a junior who also competes for the Lakers on the mat. Their parents are Carrie and Jay.
