Mercyhurst University Student-Athlete Advisory Board Bylaws
I. Name
The name of this committee will be the Student Athlete Advisory Board as opposed to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee in order to avoid confusion between the Student Activities Committee run by the Mercyhurst Student Government.
II. Mission
The Mercyhurst University Student Athletic Advisory Board is dedicated to the athletic and academic advancement of all student-athletes. The Mercyhurst University SAAB provides a forum for the discussion of student-athlete concerns and a channel of communication to the administrators through which these concerns can be heard.
The Mercyhurst University SAAB will use the power of organization to promote not only the college's athletic teams but also help promote unity and good sportsmanship in the college community and the Erie community in general. SAAB creates an environment in which all varsity sports are represented equally. Mercyhurst University SAAB strives for student-athlete awareness on the Mercyhurst campus.
III. Purpose
This organization exists:
• To streamline and promote efficient communication between the Athletic Department, Administration, and the student-athlete population.
• To provide a forum for the discussion of student-athlete concerns and a channel of communication to administrators through which these concerns can be heard.
• To actively encourage more involvement of the student-athlete in campus and community activities.
• To provide a vehicle for student-athlete representation throughout and beyond the Mercyhurst University campus via subcommittees.
• To design and implement programs which will encourage academic achievement, promotion of health and wellness and social responsibility.
• To create an environment in which all varsity teams are treated equally and to strive for an overall awareness of student-athlete activities on the Mercyhurst University campus.
IV. Membership
a. Membership will include 2 full-time varsity student-athletes from each team.
b. All members must be academically eligible throughout the term.
c. All members must be able to attend all meetings, unless excused by the SAAB Advisor.
d. All members must be willing and able to pass information on to teammates following each meeting.
V. Officers
1. President – The duties of the President include serving as the spokesperson for the committee, presiding over all meetings, preparing the agendas for each meeting, and developing ideas for Athletics Awareness Activities. The president will serve as a liaison for SAAB to the athletic department, participating in all necessary committees and projects.
2. Vice President – The duties of the Vice President include serving as the President when he or she is unable to do so, as well as aiding the president in any duties necessary. The Vice President will also serve as Spirit Club liaison.
3. Secretary – The duties of the Secretary include taking the minutes of and monitoring attendance at each meeting. The secretary is also responsible for disseminating all information to SAAB representatives. The Secretary will also serve as the chair of the Sister Damien Cup Sub-Committee
4. Treasurer – The duties of the Treasurer include the collection and expenditures of monies associated with fundraising activities. The Treasurer will also serve as the chair of the Community Service Sub-Committee.
