About the Sister Damien Cup
The Sister Damien Cup is an award given to the team that exemplifies and embraces the initiatives of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. The 24 Mercyhurst athletic teams will compete against each other for the coveted award. Both teams and individuals can earn points for their team over the course of the year.
Winning teams receive the following to be deposited into their fundraising account:
- 1st place = $500
- 2nd place = $250
- 3rd place = $100
Point categories mimic the 5 areas of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program.
**The Sister Damien Cup Committee is comprised of SAAB members.
Academic Excellence
- Highest team trimester GPA = 50pts
- 2nd place = 25pts
- 3rd place = 15pts
- 4th place = 10pts
- 5th place = 5 pts
- Team trimester GPA maintains or improves = 5pts
- 4.0 for a trimester = 2 pts per person
Athletic Excellence
- Make it to post season competition = 10 pts
- Each level you advance = 10 pts
- Win a NCAA Championship = 50 pts
- League Athlete of the week = 10pts
- Mercyhurst Athlete of the week = 5pts
- Senior Athlete of the year (for Mercyhurst) = 50pts
The following is awarded to the highest level acheived:
- All-American:
1st team = 20pts
2nd team= 15 pts
- All-Region:
1st team = 10 pts
2nd team= 7 pts
- All-Conference:
1st team = 5 pts
2nd team = 2 pts
Personal/Career Development
- Workshop attendance based on length of workshop
½ day – 2 pts
1 day – 3 pts
2 day – 4 pts
3 day – 5 pts
- Speaker attendance points will be based on point chart when it is mandatory for all athletes to attend
- Speaker attendance points = 2 points each if not required to attend
- Certified Peer Educators - 10 points for each individual on your team that completes training to be a CPE
Commitment to Service
- Most logged team hours/trimester = 50pts
- Team projects = 10pts
- Team with the highest average of individual hours = 50pts
- Team with the largest donation to the coin drive
1st place = 50pts
2nd place = 25pts
3rd place = 10pts
- Donations to Christmas on Campus = 5 pts per item donated (max 20pts)
Laker Spirit
- Attendance at Mercyhurst Lake Effect games – see Point Chart
- An additional 5 points will be awarded if 100% of team is in attendance at a Lake Effect Game.
- Participation in Laker Showdown = 50 pts/team
Winner – 50 pts
2nd place – 30 pts
3rd place – 20 pts
Additional 10pts for a team who gets their HEAD Coach to participate
SAAB attendance
- Each representative in attendance at each meeting will earn 1 point for their team (max 2pts per meeting)

- Teams without a SAAB member will not be considered.
- Points will be calculated at the end of the school year and the winner will be announced in the fall
- SAAB members will be responsible for keeping track of their own teams’ service hours and turning them into the Sister Damien Sub-Committee. Other attendance based points will be based on completion of sign up sheets.
