Women's Water Polo Sweeps Two Matches Saturday

ORANGE, Calif.- The Mercyhurst women's water polo team won two games Saturday at the Chapman Invitational. The Lakers beat the hosts, 6-5, and then won, 9-7, over Whittier.
 
Against Chapman, Hurst fell behind 2-0 after one quarter. The Lakers scored the lone goal of the second frame and then controlled the third, 2-0. The teams each posted three goals in the fourth period.
 
Laura Perez led with three goals, while Lisett Calderon had two goals and an assist. Allie Grimes totaled a goal and an assist, while Hope Rozelle made 13 saves in net.
 
In the Whittier match, Mercyhurst used a 5-1 first-quarter advantage to take the lead. The Lakers led 6-3 at the half and then expanded the margin to 7-3 through three. The Poets managed four fourth-period scores, but it wasn't enough as Hurst held on.
 
Calderon had four goals, while Bella Hersh scored three goals and dished out an assist. Perez had four assists and three steals and Trish Armstrong recorded a goal and an assist. Iaquinto added a goal and Rozelle tallied 10 saves in the victory.
 
The Lakers return to the pool tomorrow to face Cal State San Bernadino and Occidental.
