ERIE, Pa. – Nine different Lakers scored as the Mercyhurst College women's water polo team defeated Carthage, 20-10, on Wednesday afternoon at Carneval Athletic Pavilion in Erie, Pa. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 7-5 on the season.
In their first game in the Erie area this season, the Lakers bounced back from their fifth loss of the season with an impressive outing on the campus of Gannon University.
Mercyhurst overwhelmed Carthage in the first half, jumping out to an 11-3 lead, including 6-1 in the first quarter. A 6-4 advantage followed in the third before both teams traded goals in the fourth, 3-3.
Seniors
Nicole Nelson and
Alyssa Katerberg combined for eight goals and 10 points in the win. Nelson scored four goals and dished out two assists for a game-high six points. Katerberg, meanwhile, scored four times in the second quarter.
Sophomore
Lisett Calderon scored a goal and recorded three assists, sophomore
Trish Armstrong posted a hat trick, sophomore
Kylie McCormick scored twice and added an assist, and freshman
Rebecca Wright also added two goals. Senior
Rachel Griepsma found the back of the net once and dished out two assists, while junior
Laura Perez netted a goal and an assist. Junior
Laura Hennessey rounded out the offense with a goal.
Junior
Hope Rozelle recorded nine saves through three quarters for the win. Freshman
Hannah Metzger stopped five shots in the third quarter.
Mercyhurst plays two games this weekend against conference foes on Saturday, Mar. 19 at Gannon University. The Lakers take on Gannon at 11 a.m. and No. 15 Hartwick at 3 p.m.
