Bailey Bram tallied two assists to crack the century mark for points in a career, while classmate
Hillary Pattenden secured her seventh career shutout, as the No. 1/1 Mercyhurst College women's hockey team defeated Bemidji State, 4-0, in the grand opening of the Bemidji Regional Events Center Friday afternoon in Bemidji, Minn.
Both players moved deeper into the record books as the Lakers stretched their record to 5-0-0 on the season.
Bram became the 11th Laker all-time to score 100 points in a career when she marked her second assist of the game on junior
Kelley Steadman's goal 1:12 into the third period. Pattenden, meanwhile, tied class of 2001 goaltender Amber Natali for fourth most shutouts in program history by turning aside all 26 shots, including three on the power play.
Mercyhurst as a team also continued to set records. The Lakers moved their season goal total to 30 to become the first squad to score that many times in a five-game span.
Senior captain
Meghan Agosta led the offense with two goals and an assist. Senior assistant captains
Vicki Bendus and
Jesse Scanzano each dished out two helpers, while senior
Cassea Schols scored once and assisted on another. Steadman scored her sixth goal of the season to extend her career-high goal streak to five games and join Agosta as the only players to score in each game this season.
The Lakers scored two goals in the first period before adding two more in the third. Agosta accounted for all of the offense early on, netting an even-strength tally at 8:44 and a delayed-penalty strike at 14:51. After a scoreless second, Steadman and Schols both found the back of the net on the power play in the third.
For the game, Mercyhurst outshot Bemidji State 33-26 and converted 2-for-4 on the power play. Bemidji State went 0-for-5 with the extra man and saw netminder Zuzana Tomcikova make 29 saves in goal.
