The 1998 Men's Soccer program put together one of the strongest season on the pitch of any team in Mercyhurst history. The Lakers played their way to a record fo 17-4-1 for the best mark of that time. The team's 17 wins is tied for the second most in program history. Mercyhurst enjoyed a 10-game winning streak during the season, spanning from October 3rd to November 1st with the Lakers outscoring opponents 43-5, accumulating six shutouts in that span.
On top of their regular season success, the team won the GLIAC Tournament while winning the NCAA DII Central Region Championship and advancing to the NCAA DII Tournament Final Four thanks to 1-0 wins over East Stroudsburg and Truman State.
