The 2011 Men's Lacrosse team won the first national championship in program history after their 9-8 win over Adelphi in the National Championship games inside M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md. Before they made it to the finale, the Lakers made easy work of C.W. Post in the semifinals when they went on the road a defeated their counterpart 14-4 for the largest margin of victory ever by the Lakers in a NCAA Tournament game.
Mercyhurst finished 14-2 that season with a mark of 8-2 in the East Coast Conference to be tied for the fourth most wins in a single season in Laker history. The team got on a role late into the year, winning each of their last seven games with an overall margin of 85-45 with two double-digit wins to their ledger over that span. For their efforts, the Lakers had seven players named to an All-ECC team in Gregory Bensman (First Team), Kevin Coholan (First Team), Brian Scheetz (Second Team), Matt Scherer (Second Team) while Kyle Kallay, Zach Nash, and Andy Winslow were all named Honorable Mentions. Bensman and Coholan added First Team All-American honors to their line as well while Scheetz and Andrew Wagner were both Honorable Mentions.
